Our Project List

Waterford Civic Trust has a number of current and proposed projects which you can read about here. Each project is designed to protect or enhance our treasure of heritage, and relies on the support of our members, volunteers, similarly driven groups, Waterford City & County Council and other State bodies.

To help, you can become a member of the Trust and support us with your time, expertise or donations.

Leper Hospital Project


The Leper Hospital project - Stage One will clear the site of invasive vegetation and rubbish with the help of volunteers and local funding. The site may date from the 13th century.


Graveyard Project


The Graveyard Project will focus on ancient graveyards and will collect available research data, clean up the sites and work with local communities to ensure their protection and upkeep.


St Johns Priory


This project is a Local Training Initiative funded by Solas and managed by WCT. It trains people in traditional heritage stonework under the guidance of a Master Stonemason. Fantastic work done so far and more is planned.


Social History


The Social History project aims to collect and store memories from people in Waterford about our beautiful City and County.

Black Friars - Raise The Roof


Blackfriars is a major project, proposed by WCT, with the aim of replacing the roof on Blackfriars Church in Conduit Lane. This site will require significant funding, and will enhance Waterford's heritage greatly.

St Michael's Church


It is proposed to survey and conserve this heritage property to ensure its future in Waterford's history.


The Beach Tower


The Beach Tower Restoration Project was a great success and has been completed. Further work is required to ensure that the Tower is maintained and this work was undertaken by the St John's Priory Local Training Initiative team, under the guidance of Master Stonemason Tony Jones. 


Defoliation - Buildings/Walls


This proposal aims to work with businesses locally to clear Buddleia shrubs and other weeds that will cause damage to buildings over time.

Gaworks Bridge


The Lattice Bridge has been removed and replaced by a contemporary footbridge. The new bridge meets current health and safety standards, and it has been completed.
