Our Project List


Waterford Civic Trust has a number of current and proposed projects which you can read about. Each project is designed to protect or enhance our treasure of heritage and relies on the support of our members, volunteers, similarly driven groups, the City & County County Council and other State bodies.


To help, you can become a member of the Trust and support us with your time, expertise or donations.

Leper Hospital Project


The Leper Hospital project - Stage One will clear the site of invasive vegetation and rubbish with the help of volunteers and local funding. The site may date from the 13th century.

Graveyard Project

The Graveyard Project will focus on ancient graveyards and will collect available research, clean up the sites and work with local communities to ensure their protection and upkeep.

St John's Priory


This project is an Local Training Initiative funded by Solas and managed by WCT. It trains people in heritage stonework under the guidance of a Master Stone Mason. Fantastic work done so far and more planned

Social History


The Social History project aims to collect and store memories from people in Waterford about our beautiful City and County.

Blackfriars - Raise the Roof


Blackfriars is a major project, proposed by WCT, with the aim of replacing the roof on Blackfriars Church in Conduit Lane. This funding will rqeuire significant funding but will enhance Waterford's heritage greatly

St Michael's Church


It is proposed to survey and conserve this heritage property to ensure its future in Waterford's history.

The Beach Tower


The Beach Tower Restoration Project was a great success and has been completed. Further work is required to ensure that the Tower is maintained and this work is often done by the St John's Priory project. 

Defoliation - Buildings/Walls


This proposal aims to work with businesses locally to clear bulbudlia and other weeds that will cause damage to buildings over time.

Gasworks Bridge


The Lattice Bridge has been removed and renovated to meet new standards and will be replaced when the Gasworks work is completed
